Why this grade
What affects this marina’s docking difficulty?
Room to maneuver
Wider fairways give you more space to turn, line up with your dock and make another approach if your first attempt doesn’t go as planned. Narrower fairways leave less room for corrections.
Wind speed and direction
Wind can push your boat toward the dock, away from it or sideways across your approach. Stronger winds make those effects harder to manage. DockWise considers the prevailing wind’s speed and direction in relation to the marina’s dock layout.
Difficulty can vary between docks, and even between opposite sides of the same dock. The same wind may push your boat toward one side and away from the other.
This is the marina’s general rating, based on its layout and prevailing wind. It is not about today’s conditions or your personal ability.
From Captain Rob
“I've given lessons to a number of pontoon owners who had a really tough time docking, and it usually wasn't the boat or the driver. It was their marina's prevailing wind speed and direction working against them every time they came in.”
Why this marina is graded C+
- The fairway is about 59 ft wide.
- The grade reflects the hardest of its 7 main docks.
What changes it for you
- Your experience and training
- Your boat: twin engines, a bow or stern thruster, or a joystick make a big difference, and so do its length and how much wind it catches
- The slip you pick: which side of the dock, and whether you go in bow first or stern first
- The day you choose: calmer wind makes any marina easier
Many boaters dock here every day without trouble. The baseline is the starting point for your grade, not a verdict on the marina.
