Great Lakes Slip Costs: What Drives the Price

By Captain Robert B. Kolb, Coast Guard-licensed captain, 30 years on the water

The short answer

DockWise does not have verified slip price figures, so we don't quote any. Ask each marina directly for its current seasonal and transient rates and what is included. Our free marina reports help you compare what you'd be paying for: the docking demands and the recorded facilities.

Why we don't list prices

We only publish figures we have real data for. Our marina records don't hold verified slip rates, and an outdated or guessed number would do you more harm than good.

What to ask each marina

  • The current seasonal and transient rate for your boat's length and beam.
  • What is included, and what is extra.
  • Slip dimensions, depth and the approach to the slip you'd be given.

Compare what you're paying for

Marina Quality describes the recorded facilities, dock condition, amenities and available value information, out of 100. Docking Difficulty separately describes the layout, fairway room and wind exposure, from A (easiest) to D (hardest).

Compare docking difficulty and marina quality before you call for rates.
